- FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A Fairbanks man has been killed in a motorcycle accident on the Elliott Highway. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says 53-year-old Michael Ferguson and his wife, Dawn, were traveling south and returning to Fairbanks on Saturday evening when their motorcycle went off the road. State Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen says the stretch of road near milepost 20 is asphalt chip seal with new frost heave bumps. She says the corner where the motorcycle left the road had a recommended speed of 45 mph. But she says the motorcycle was believed to be going about 55. Ferguson was not wearing a helmet. His wife, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for broken bones and other injuries.
