Senate passes $2B capital spending package

- JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The Alaska Senate has passed a $2-billion capital spending package. The bill includes about $1.9 billion in capital and other projects for the next year, as well as some spending items for the current year. Saturday's 17-3 vote followed several failed attempts by minority Democrats to amend the bill, to add things like additional funding for engineering buildings within the University of Alaska system. The measure now goes to the House.
