- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska state troopers say a village public safety officer in a southwest Alaska community was shot and killed Tuesday evening. One man has been arrested. Troopers have arrested 42-year-old Leroy Dick Jr. for investigation of murder in the death of 54-year-old Thomas Madole. Within an hour after learning of the shooting, troopers flew into the community of Manokotak, located about 350 miles southwest of Anchorage. Troopers say Madole was found dead outside a home. Dick was jailed in Dillingham. Madole was one of two village public safety officers based in the village. He'd been assigned there since August 2011.
