Officer fires at driver who rammed police car

-ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A 34-year-old man suspected of ramming an Anchorage police car is being held without bail at the Anchorage Jail. Anchorage police say an officer fired his weapon at Lusia Pedro in the incident early Sunday morning. Pedro is charged with two counts of felony assault and eluding. He was originally arrested on a federal probation violation warrant. Police say they took a call at 3:17 a.m. that a driver had brandished a gun. Officers spotted the car on Fifth Avenue and blocked the roadway at Karluk Street. Police say the suspect rammed a patrol car and drove away as an officer fired. Spike strips later disabled the car. An officer with a police dog arrested Pedro near International Airport Road and Minnesota Drive as he fled on foot.
