- ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A 25-year-old Sterling man is under arrest, accused of beating two hitchhikers with a club near Soldotna after he demanded money and they showed him an empty wallet. The Anchorage Daily News says Travis McHone is charged with robbery, second-degree kidnapping, third-degree assault and evidence tampering. Alaska State Troopers say McHone gave the men a ride from a convenience store and demanded money at some point.
Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says the hitchhikers paid McHone but he wanted more cash and began hitting the men with "some kind of stick." According to Peters, one of the hitchhikers fought back and the men finally overpowered McHone and jumped out of the vehicle. They called authorities Friday night. Troopers found McHone, who was booked into Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward.
