Suspect being sought in mail collection box thefts

Dec 27, 2012 -- 11:00am

- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Four, large blue mail collection boxes have disappeared from four Anchorage post offices in recent days. Police say two were taken on Christmas Day. The Anchorage Daily News says that an arrest warrant has been issued for 50-year-old Anchorage resident Clifford Dancer. He is charged with forgery and theft in connection with a check that went through one of the post offices. Police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker says the check was chemically washed to remove the name of the person to whom it was written. The original amount was for $50, but it was rewritten for several hundred dollars. Three of the boxes have since been found. The Postal Service is offering up to $5,000 for information leading to Dancer's arrest and conviction.
