Anchorage gets snow, finally

Dec 12, 2012 -- 11:13am

- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - After a month of brutal cold and clear skies that produced few flakes, Anchorage residents woke up Wednesday to a winter wonderland that had many singing "let it snow, let it snow, let it snow." Wednesday marked the first real snowfall of the season for Alaska's biggest city, which so far has seen about half the normal amount of snow for this time of year. Last year, Anchorage saw record-breaking amounts of snow in a season in which more than 11 feet fell, breaking a nearly 60-year-old record. Office manager Dee Byrne at Tony's Enterprises in Anchorage says the phone was "ringing off the wall" on Wednesday morning, with five snowplows going from one job to the next, and at least a dozen people waiting to be plowed out.
