Fairbanks-area housing deemed most affordable

Dec 02, 2012 -- 1:00pm

- FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - A state report says Fairbanks-area homes are the most affordable in Alaska. The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development says the Fairbanks North Star Borough has the most affordable housing of eight regions in the state that were studied.  The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says it takes 1.2 wage earners to buy a typical home in the borough, based on local averages. That's the lowest among the areas noted in the December issue of "Alaska Economic Trends." Juneau and Kodiak Island tied for the most expensive areas, followed by the Ketchikan Gateway Borough, Bethel, the Mat-Su Borough, Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula.
