- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage police soon will be equipped with more stun guns. Channel-2 News reports that the department will buy 60 more Tasers in coming months. The announcement from Police Chief Mark New comes after the Anchorage Assembly this week approved the purchase of more stun guns. The $300,000 needed to buy the stun guns will come out of the police forfeiture fund. The move comes after Anchorage police officers who didn't have stun guns shot and killed two men who didn't have firearms in separate incidents earlier this year. Mew says currently 113 police officers have Tasers out of about 374 officers. All of the officers involved in the two fatal shootings were cleared of any wrongdoing.
