A sled dog race that was to be hosted by the Two Rivers Dog Mushers Association will be held, but not as part of the International Federation of Sleddog Sports.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says the Two Rivers group voted last week to withdraw from participation in the IFSS's word championships over an apparent conflict with the international body's anti-doping policies for dogs. A list of banned substances for the dogs includes anti-ulcer medications such as Pepsic and Prllosec. The Two Rivers Dog Mushers Association says race veterinarians strongly encourage the use of anti-ulcer medications to prevent dog deaths. The federation says views of dog care differ throughout the world. The championships will be held from late February through mid-March at venues from Fairbanks to Salcha.
