Bear activity reported from Anchorage to Sitka

Jun 13, 2014 -- 9:45am
- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A brown bear attempting to raid a kitchen in Sitka has been killed, while a black bear with two cubs has taken up residence in a busy part of Anchorage. The Daily Sitka Sentinel reports Natalie Allen had just baked a pizza Tuesday and sat down to read when a bear broke a window screen. Allen retreated to a bedroom and called police, but the bruin was gone by the time officers arrived. Wildlife officials tracked and killed the bear for exhibiting poor behavior. In Anchorage, KTVA reports the black bear and cubs have been seen repeatedly between the adjoining campuses of the University of Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Pacific University. The sow hasn't been aggressive, but officials warn people to be wary of a mother with newborn cubs.
