Boy rescued from mud at Anchorage's Ship Creek

Jul 18, 2013 -- 9:30am
- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A young boy was safely pulled out of the mud from Ship Creek Wednesday after becoming stuck. Channel-2 News reports  Isaish McKenzie was rescued by the Anchorage Fire Department after mud and the rising tide reached waist level. The eighth-grader usually visits Ship Creek with his family to fish. But on Wednesday, he went alone. He says he took a bad path and ignored the color and feel of the mud. He was sinking in the mud by the time he realized his mistake. Mud and water was waist level when someone saw him. Anchorage firefighter Tommy Etheredge says they tied a rope around the boy and coached him to lean back-and-forth until he loosened himself from the mud.
