- ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers are warning Big Lake residents not to pick up hitchhikers or open their home doors to strangers after a man fired shots as he was stopped by an officer in his vehicle. Troopers say an officer after 10 minutes of pursuit stopped a man in his vehicle at about 8:20 a.m. Tuesday. The man got out of the vehicle and fired shots. Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says the trooper was not injured. The officer called for backup and the troopers' Special Emergency Reaction Team rushed to the area to conduct a search, which was later called off. The man was not located, and troopers ask people remain cautious.
